چکیده

The measurement accuracy of an interferometric optical test is generally limited by the environment. This paper discusses two single-shot interferometric techniques for reducing the sensitivity of an optical test to vibration; simultaneous phase-shifting interferometry and spatial carrier interferometry. ©2004 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (120.0120) Instrumentation, measurement and metrology; (120.3180) Interferometry; (120.3940) Metrology; (120.5050) Phase measurement

Computerized interferometric surface measurements [Invited].

The addition of electronics, computers, and software to interferometry has enabled enormous improvements in optical metrology. This paper discusses four areas in which computerized interferometric measurement improvements have been made in the measurement of surface shape and surface roughness: (a) The use of computer-generated holograms for the testing of aspheric optics, (b) phase-shifting in...

Developments in Optical Testing Technology During the Last Decade

Modern electronics, computers, and software have made it possible to greatly improve the testing of optical components and optical systems and the resulting improvements in the new optical instruments and devices we use are evident. Until recently a major limitation of interferometry for precision metrology was the sensitivity to the environment. In recent years many techniques for performing h...

Distributed Fiber-Optic Sensors for Vibration Detection

Distributed fiber-optic vibration sensors receive extensive investigation and play a significant role in the sensor panorama. Optical parameters such as light intensity, phase, polarization state, or light frequency will change when external vibration is applied on the sensing fiber. In this paper, various technologies of distributed fiber-optic vibration sensing are reviewed, from interferomet...

Development of a Low Cost 3x3 Coupler Mach-Zehnder Interferometric Optical Fibre Vibration Sensor

In this paper, a low cost 3x3 coupler Mach-Zehnder interferometric optical fibre vibration sensor is proposed. Unlike traditional Mach-Zehnder interferometer with a strain free reference arm, two parallel optical fibres with different strain transfer sensitivity is adopted. With proper demodulation algorithm, the time rate of change of the strain can be computed from the light signal of the out...

Contrast interferometry using Bose-Einstein condensates to measure h/m and alpha.

The kinetic energy of an atom recoiling due to absorption of a photon was measured as a frequency, using an interferometric technique called "contrast interferometry." Optical standing wave pulses were used to create a symmetric three-path interferometer with a Bose-Einstein condensate. Its recoil phase, measurable with a single shot, varies quadratically with additional recoils and is insensit...
